Liverpool prepare response to Mohamed Salah's bombshell future as contract plan clarified

Liverpool are planning to open talks with Mohamed Salah over a new contract in the near future, talkSPORT understands.

Salah dropped a bomb after scoring in Sunday's 3-0 win over Manchester United, stating that it could be his last appearance at Old Trafford in a Liverpool shirt.

But the Anfield hierarchy are relaxed about Salah's situation and talks are expected to take place with their Egyptian superstar's advisers imminently.

Salah is also understood to be settled on Merseyside and keen to stay beyond the end of this season when his current contract expires.

This is despite the looming possibility of a large transfer of money to Saudi Arabia.

Salah sparked comment during his post-match interview following the 3-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend, a game in which he scored one goal and provided two assists.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “I've had a good summer and I've had a lot of time to myself to try and stay positive because, as you know, it's my last year at the club.

“I just want to enjoy it and I don't want to think about it. I feel like I'm free to play football and then we'll see what happens next year.”

“I came to today's game thinking it might be the last time.

“Nobody at the club has spoken to me yet about a new contract, so I'll just play this last season and then see at the end of the season.

“It's not up to me, but nobody should talk to me about a contract with the club. We'll see.”

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness discussed Salah's future after Salah's interview, suggesting he may have already decided to leave.

Union Jim White and Simon Jordan Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I think he's made up his mind. I think he's got something planned.”

He continued: “Yeah, looking back at it, I think it didn't go the way he wanted it to because I think he tried to bounce back from that more in the interview on Sky yesterday.”

Salah is considered a modern Liverpool legend, having scored 214 goals and 92 assists in 352 games.
