Speaking after Germany’s 5-0 win against Hungary in the Nations League last night, Jamal Musiala reacted to his performance and playing alongside Florian Wirtz.
In Düsseldorf, Musiala was instrumental in Germany’s win. The 21-year-old started off the night with an assist to Niclas Füllkrug for an easy tap-in. Musiala would then link up with Wirtz for the next two goals, first the Bayer Leverkusen forward assisted his Bayern counterpart before Musiala then repaid the favour eight minutes later. Musiala would then finish off his night with another assist for Bayern teammate, Aleksander Pavlovic. On his performance (via @iMiaSanMia):
“It might be, even if I feel my overall game could have been better. It’s good to bulk the stats up but what was important was that we won the game and now we can look forward to the game on Tuesday”
In the days preceding the game against Hungary, it was revealed that Musiala had not been nominated for the Ballon d’Or. However, his performance tonight not only received calls from captain Joshua Kimmich and Julian Nagelsmann for him to be included but also showed that he should have been included in the first place.
On the performance of the team as a whole, Musiala, speaking to ZDF (via @vcatalina96), said:
“It‘s important we keep the joy we had at the Euros. We have 20 games until the World Cup. We have to use every game. We lost four players playing a big role so we have to build up chemistry.”
Heading into the EUROs in the summer, there were questions about whether Musiala and Wirtz could co-exist in this Germany team. Their performances in the summer as well as last night showed that they can. On playing alongside Florian Wirtz:
“It was great fun. It‘s always fun to play with Flo. We found our rhythm after 1-2 goals and with that confidence we can keep playing the whole evening.”
