Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann opened up about his struggles for form at Euro 2024.
Griezmann was a crucial part of Les Bleus' 2018 FIFA World Cup victory and their run to the 2022 finals in Qatar.
Despite seeing his position changed, to drop him into a deeper or outfield midfielder role, Griezmann remains vital to the national team.
But an unstable team has been rotated to Euro 2024 since Didier Deschamps as France struggled to show their true level at the tournament.
Despite reaching the semi-finals before losing to champions Spain, France sees the tournament as a missed opportunity.
Griezmann found himself knocked down and off the starting line by Deschamps who the 33-year-old admitted was annoyed.
“There were a lot of changes that we had to deal with. I prepared well with Atletico Madrid to be in good physical shape,” according to an interview with Telefoot, via Marco.
“If I had scored those two chances against Holland, my Euros would have been different. Should I have changed the position? Not when I was on the pitch, but against Poland and Spain, I was angry not to play.
“These are tactical decisions and you have to respect them, even if they disturb you. Everything revolves around the team. But it was not my best competition.”
Griezmann is in line to win his 137th international cap as France host Belgium in UEFA Nations League action in Lyon tomorrow.
That will take them into third place with Olivier Giroud on the all-time list and seven behind leader Hugo Lloris.
