Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United He reportedly contacted Barcelona on a deal to sign Fermin Lopez this summer, according to the transfer journalist Matteo Moretto.

The Lilywhites currently have James Maddison as the only option to play in the attacking midfield position. Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert can also play in the number ten role if needed, but the duo are more comfortable playing on the wings. Therefore, it seems that Spurs have tried to sign a new attacking midfielder to create competition for Maddison.

Moretto has reported that Tottenham have shown interest in signing Lopez from Barcelona and have even 'enquired' about details to secure his signing this summer.

The journalist also claims that Spurs were not the only club to show interest in signing him, as Manchester United also began talks with the Blaugrana over a possible transfer, but ultimately no deal materialised because neither the player nor Barcelona considered it.

However, Lopez was a Barcelona squad player last season and following the arrival of Dani Olmo, his chances could be further depleted this season as the Catalan giants have other options to deploy in the number ten role.

So if he ultimately fails to find regular playing time this season, then he could be persuaded to move in 2025. In that case, Manchester United or Tottenham may manage to secure his signature next summer if either club rekindles their interest.

Spanish has a 338 million pounds release clause in his current contract and it is unlikely that Spurs or the Red Devils will attempt to sign him unless Hansi Flick's side opt to reduce their asking price, especially considering he is valued at around £25m per Transfer market.

Bruno Fernandes has been Manchester United's first-choice attacking midfielder. Mason Mount was signed to replace the Portuguese last year, but after his time at Old Trafford he has struggled physically in recent years. As such, the Red Devils appear to be looking to sign a new number ten.

Lopez enjoyed a stellar summer with his national team, Spain, as he won the European Championship and also guided his country to a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

Lopez could be a smart acquisition for Tottenham or Manchester United if either club are able to secure his signature.
