Manchester United are taking a radical turn at Old Trafford with plans to build a new 100,000-seat stadium

Manchester United are reportedly willing to drop plans to keep Old Trafford if they decide to build a new stadium.

The Red Devils are deciding whether to expand and modernise Old Trafford or build a new venue next to the Theatre of Dreams.

If United opt for the latter option, it has been claimed that Old Trafford will remain as the home of the club's women's and academy teams.

But according to the Daily Mail, United are willing to abandon those plans if a new stadium is built.

The report claims Old Trafford would be “demolished to the ground” because reducing the stadium's size is considered too costly and complex a project.

Additionally, it was reported that a 30,000-capacity for the women's and academy teams was considered too high, and a new 15,000-seat venue was thought to be a better plan for the future.

Mr. Jim RatcliffeA supporter of the construction of a new stadium, he said in the summer that he expected a decision to be taken by the end of the year.

Ratcliffe had hoped the decision-making timetable would ensure work on a new stadium would be completed by 2030 in what is shaping up to be a £2bn project.

He also envisioned that the new stadium, dubbed the Wembley of the North, would have a capacity of 100,000 people.

However, the option of staying at Old Trafford and investing £1bn in improvements and renovations remains on the table.

Red Devils fans will also have a major say in any future decisions.

The club confirmed it will send an email to male and female season ticket holders, members and club executive members to assess whether they want United to remain at Old Trafford or move to a new stadium.

In addition, United will be asking fans for their feedback on the matchday experience and what they would like to experience in the future.

The survey represents the first major step in the fan consultation phase of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, chaired by Lord Coe, which is taking fan sentiment into account in its decision-making process.

“Old Trafford should be a stadium that Manchester United fans can be proud of, so I urge fans to complete the survey and take part in the wider consultation to help shape the feasibility work of the task force and ultimately inform the club’s final decision on the future of the stadium.”

Although United are making progress off the pitch, they still have work to do on it.
