Midfielder of Real Sociedad Martin Zubimendi surprised many when he turned down an offer to join Arne Slot's new Liverpool, and a sizeable pay rise to go with it. The 25-year-old pivot is a fan favorite in Donostia-San Sebastian, but could consider his position on a move.

At one point, it looked like he would accept the opportunity to play at Anfield, but eventually chose to stay at the club. However TeamTalk quotes the Estadio Deportivo saying that Zubimendi is now open to a move Liverpool again, and added that the Reds are happy to return for him.

After Mikel Merino and Robin Le Normand left, Zubimendi was not impressed with the rebuilding effort at the Arena Reale, and his doubts that they were doing the right thing. They say a move could come as early as January.

It would be a big surprise if Zubimendi had returned to the matter a little more than a month later. Until the information is confirmed by another source, Liverpool fans might want to put the excitement on hold. ED refers to “English media” as responsible for the claims, but does not specify where the information came from. That said, if Zubimendi were willing to make the move now, Liverpool would not need to negotiate with La Real, and could activate his €60 million release clause.
