One celebrity who will be in attendance at the London Stadium on Saturday is Chesney Hawkes, the 1990s hit icon behind the smash hit “The One and Only.”

Hawkes is a passionate Hammers fan and caught the virus when he sat in the away section at White Hart Lane with close family friends at a game against Tottenham.

“We lost 5-0,” Hawkes told talkSPORT with a laugh.

“All the West Ham fans were doing the hockey cokey dance down the hall. I was thinking, 'OK, these are my people'. Even at nine years old, I knew that.”

Hawkes fell in love with several players who wore the burgundy and blue over the years, including Pablo Di Canio, Carlos TevezFrank McAvennie, Tony CotteeAlan Devonshire, Alvin Martin and Billy Bonds.

But Bowen could be promoted to the top job at Hawkes' favourite Hammers thanks to a bold deal with the England international.

“I received a promise from Jarrod Bowen“Hawkes said.

“If he scores a goal, he'll run up to the corner flag, grab it like a microphone and sing as best he can: 'The One and Only.'”

Bowen, or Hawkes, won't care if the striker scores the only goal of the game, as long as the Hammers win.

Although it is early in the season, Lopetegui has a lot of work to do to lead West Ham to similar league results to his predecessor. David Moyes.

Moyes began his second spell with the Hammers in the 2019/20 campaign and led them to safety.

West Ham finished sixth and seventh in the next two seasons before dropping to 14th, but won the European Conference League That campaign, ending a 43-year wait for a title.

Moyes managed a ninth-place finish before leaving at the end of last season, which coincided with the end of his contract.

Although the Hammers may have had a slow start this season, Hawkes believed it was “too early to say” whether the team missed Moyes.

“I was at Rush Green[West Ham's training ground]a couple of days ago and everyone was saying how much they loved him and how he brought the team together,” Hawkes said.

“Jarrod Bowen speaks very highly of him. I think we have to give him time. He has a lot of new players and it takes him a while to adapt, right?

“We're already seeing little glimpses of things taking shape and I think everything will take shape on Saturday.”
