Barcelona captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has come in for heavy criticism following Thursday's Champions League defeat at AS Monaco. The German goalkeeper gifted possession to the hosts in the early stages, and this led to Eric Garcia being sent off for a last-ditch challenge.

Ter Stegen has received rumors from fans and pundits, and in the last 12 months, there has been growing discontent among Barcelona supporters regarding the 32-year-old, with some calling for him to be sold.

One person in Ter Stegen's corner is fellow La Liga goalkeeper Rui Silva. The Real Betis cap came to the defense of his pair during an interview with AS Diary.

“Marc-Andre is at the top and has a lot of adaptability. He has shown his quality for many years, and he is sure to arrive very soon – that is what makes the difference between one and the other. I am sure that a goalkeeper of the his level will give the best answer in the next match that leads to the field.

“When a goalkeeper makes a mistake, it is disappointing, but it always happened and will continue to happen. We have to understand that we are human. It is impossible to be one hundred percent infallible. Even goalkeepers who are completely concentrated make mistakes. I think it is unfair that they deceive us, because when a striker fails the same thing does not happen.

Barcelona they continue to support Ter Stegen, who will remain as an undisputed starter for some time. Those supporters who want him gone, will certainly have to wait a bit.
