Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran complete Villa's comeback to beat Wolverhampton | Premier League

For Aston VillaIt was a hugely satisfying end to a difficult, yet historic, week. Villa mourned the loss of Gary Shaw, the youngest member of their 1982 European Cup-winning side, and made a flawless return to Europe's premier club competition. There was a rousing minute's applause for Shaw before kick-off and, at the end, a rapturous crowd celebrated the comeback.

Wolves took the lead in the 72nd minute through Matheus Cunha's powerful finish after capitalising on a poor pass from Diego Carlos, but they crumbled when Ollie Watkins levelled. Ezri Konsa scored what he presumably thought would be the winner in the 88th minute and then The in shape Jhon Durán, who has yet to start a game this season, scored his fourth goal of the campaign with a close-range shot.

For Wolves, an embarrassing defeat was compounded by the withdrawal of centre-back Yerson Mosquera with 10 minutes remaining in regulation time.

With a minute remaining in the first half, Emery had seen enough and marched down the touchline towards the tunnel looking stupid. Some fans booed when referee Tim Robinson blew the whistle for half-time. Villa were trailing after Cunha's 25th-minute goal and their performance was so lacklustre that they deserved to have gone even further behind.

Rayan Aït-Nouri had a volley that Carlos deflected away and Mario Lemina sent a header straight at Emiliano Martinez from a corner. Wolves were extremely disciplined, with striker Jørgen Strand Larsen usually one of the 10 behind the ball as Villa tried. Watkins' shot was blocked and the ball back-heeled to Morgan Rogers, but Wolves were quick to clear.

A couple of minutes before the break, one phase of play was indicative of how things were going for Villa. Cunha had a shot, Aït-Nouri was first to the rebound and tried again, and then André was first to win possession on the edge of the area before breaking clear of Rogers.

Villa were too listless for Emery's liking. The manager tried to speed up play on the touchline and his frustrations got the better of him when he was booked for expressing his disapproval of Strand Larsen taking an eternity to leave the field when he was replaced by Gonçalo Guedes. Strand Larsen was also guilty of delaying a shot in the first half when he was in front of goal.

Villa found themselves on familiar ground, with Emery calling on Duran to warm up again as the hour approached. A couple of minutes later he came on for Jacob Ramsey and, without touching the ball, his presence seemed to cause confusion. Another Villa substitute, Ross Barkley, saw a shot go wide in the area and just wide. Duran headed high from a corner in the 70th minute and was involved in the build-up to Villa's equaliser. Rogers pounced on a loose ball about 20 yards from Sam Johnstone's goal and passed to Watkins, who, partnered by Craig Dawson, fired wide and scored just as Villa's second shot was on target.

Watkins was already on the right track. Mosquera brought down the striker just after the half-time mark and then collided with Rogers, who came off much worse and had to be carried off on a stretcher. Villa went for the jugular and when Youri Tielemans' recycled corner dropped in off the far post, Konsa beat Lemina to the ball and finished instinctively.

Durán joined in the action by converting a low pass from Rogers on the edge of the six-yard box. Wolverhampton fans headed for the exits.
