Southgate has been out of work since resigning as England manager in July following their defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 end.

Current owner Farhad Moshiri accepted a lower offer from Friedkin than John Textor was willing to pay in order to ensure a smoother and quicker sale of the club.

Moshiri will leave having suffered a significant loss on his £700m investment after agreeing to sell his 94.1 per cent stake in Merseysiders to the Friedkin-led Friedkin Group.

Sources close to Moshiri say the takeover is worth between £400m and £500m, most of which will be used to convert debt into equity.

These include the £200m pumped into the Toffees by 777 Sports during their ill-fated takeover attempt, with Friedkin negotiating a deal directly with US insurance company A-Cap, which funded 777's bid.

That part of the deal will need to be ratified by a New York court after A-Cap seized 777's assets.

Moshiri decided to sell to Friedkin after getting tired of waiting for the outspoken Textor to sell his shares in Crystal Palace to be able to buy the Toffees.

The deal, subject to approval from the Premier League and the Financial Conduct Authority, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Everton They are due to move into their new 52,888-seat home at Bramley-Moore Dock for the start of next season.

Friedkin also agreed to inject additional funds to finance day-to-day operating costs, including salaries and eventual financing of the stadium move, while waiting for the acquisition to close.

In a statement to Roma fans, Friedkin said: “We remain active investors in the sports industry. We love the beautiful game.”

“The possible addition of Everton to our portfolio does not alter our focus on AS Roma. If anything, the symbiosis between several clubs will only benefit Roma.

“Each club in our portfolio operates independently and AS Roma remains at the centre of our footballing ambitions. Please be assured that our commitment of time, resources and energy to Roma will not diminish.

This came after they were docked eight points for violating profit and sustainability rules.

As for this season, Everton have been struggling a lot after losing four of their five Premier League games so far.

Having scored five goals and conceded 14, the Toffees sit 19th in the table.
