Chelsea fans make Jamie Carragher rant go viral after beating Arsenal and Liverpool in Premier League
Liverpool great Jamie Carragher may come to regret the verdict he passed on Chelsea before the season began.
The Blues have come under fire amid another massive transfer window, with players such as Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling and Conor Gallagher were relegated to the so-called 'bomb squad'.
However, Chelsea managed to get rid of the vast majority of those who seemed to have no future at the club and racked up £167.5m in spending, ending the transfer window with a net expenditure of £34m.
Despite the small net spending figure, Carragher criticised the club's transfer strategy in August.
“Chelsea simply have to stop buying players,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.
“And players need to stop signing for Chelsea.”
Carragher added: “There's nothing there. It's not a young, exciting team. You've bought João FelixOkay, tell me where he's going to play.
“They signed Neto a week ago, where is he going to play when he's already… Cole Palmer.”
Although Neto and João Félix have not yet managed to make a place for themselves in Enzo MarescaIn the Italian's starting lineup, the Blues have played some brilliant football.
In fact, Chelsea's 11 Premier League goals this season are the second most in the competition, one more than Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Blues' 11 goals are also six more than Manchester United and four more than Newcastle.
In addition, the average age of Maresca's starting eleven this season has been the youngest in the league, at 23.2 years.
The second youngest is Bournemouth with 25, with Everton with the starting team being the oldest with an average of 28.3.
With the high number of goals scored coupled with the youngest average age of the starting line-up in the league, Chelsea fans were quick to remind Carragher of his comments.
A video of his speech, along with some of Chelsea's most exciting plays this season, has spread like wildfire through the Blues community on social media…
Maresca recently explained Chelsea's transfer strategy as a deliberate plan to have two top-quality options in every position.
“As left wingers, we have Jadon (Sancho) and Misha (Mykhailo Mudryk),” Maresca said last week.
“As right wingers, we have Noni (Madueke) and Pedro (Neto). As attacking midfielders, we have Joao (Felix) and Cole (Palmer).
“As 9 we have Nicolas (Jackson), Christo (Nkunku) and Marc (Guiu). We don't have that many players, we have two players for each position.”
It's not just the top of the pitch that Chelsea have improved: Maresca's side have kept clean sheets in three of their last three games in all competitions.
It is true that one of them was against a League Two team. Forklift truck on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup like a Christopher Nkunku A hat-trick inspired them to a 5-0 victory.
However, Chelsea face their toughest game in weeks when they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Seagulls are yet to taste defeat this season but will be without coach Fabian Hurzeler after he was sent off in his side's thrilling 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest last Sunday.
