It’s fair to say that Maximilian Beier’s Borussia Dortmund career hasn’t got off to the greatest of starts. Starting just one of Die Schwarzgelben’s four Bundesliga games following his €28.5m arrival from Hoffenheim, Beier is yet to score for his new club and was an unused substitute last weekend.
But that could change for Friday’s game against Ruhr rivals Bochum. Nuri Şahin hinted in Wednesday’s press conference that Beier could start, but it’s unclear as to who the German forward would replace.
“I really wanted him,” said Şahin. “He has only had a few minutes so far, that’s true. But that will change.”
Like Beier, Serhou Guirassy – another summer arrival – has somewhat struggled in his early Dortmund career. Joining from Stuttgart, the Guinean was sidelined with an injury before starting against Heidenheim. The 28-year-old scored Dortmund’s only goal in their 5-1 defeat against Stuttgart last weekend.
Beier starting ahead of Guirassy is unlikely, but it would be interesting to see how Şahin fits both forwards into the same team.
