Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy draws comparisons to Erling Haaland

On Friday evening, Borussia Dortmund appeared set to continue their worrying start to the season.

After 21 minutes, VfL Bochum found themselves 2-0 up at the Westfalenstadion, and in truth, it should have been 3-0, but Myron Boadu failed to beat Gregor Kobel when one-on-one with the Swiss international.

Having previously struggled to prove their quality against Club Brugge in the Champions League as well as VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, there were suggestions that Nuri Şahin had destabilised Dortmund since taking over from Edin Terzić.

However, with Die Schwarzgelben in desperate need of a saviour, Serhou Guirassy stepped up to the plate.

The former Stuttgart striker headed Dortmund back into the game prior to the half-time whistle before winning a penalty after the break, allowing Emre Can to level the tie.

The Guinea international would continue to inspire BvB to all three points, scoring twice more to complete his hat trick, making it five goals in as many games since arriving at the Westfalenstadion.

This form has, therefore, drawn comparisons to a former Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland, who scored 86 goals in 89 games for the Black and Yellows.

The current Manchester City striker has been sorely missed since heading to the Premier League, with Sébastien Haller, Anthony Modeste, Niclas Füllkrug, and Youssoufa Moukoko all failing to replicate the Norwegian’s consistent goalscoring exploits.

Last season, Guirassy proved that he can be a reliable goalscorer when fit, and this season has been no different.

Now, Dortmund will hope that he can continue his fine form, and before long, the 28-year-old could become the most feared striker in Europe.
