- Aston Villa Vs. FC Bayern München – Wed, Oct 2nd 2024, 20:00
Jacob Ramsey can’t wait for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich and what promises to be an electric atmosphere at Villa Park.
Villa entertain the Bavarian giants in a mouth-watering encounter as B6 plays host to Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since 1983.
Unai Emery’s side enjoyed some memorable nights at Villa Park in the Europa Conference League last season, including a 4-0 success over Ajax.
And midfielder Ramsey knows the Villa faithful will contribute to another special occasion under the lights.
“Even on a Saturday, 3pm in the Premier league, the atmosphere is really good,” he told VillaTV.
“I’m expecting Wednesday night, 8pm, the fans are going to be right up for it and it’s going to help the lads.”
Ramsey added: “It’s going to be a massive test but I think, especially last season in European competition, the fans really helped us get through some of the games.
“So, hopefully it can happen again.”
Ramsey, a boyhood Villa supporter, fully appreciates the significance of Wednesday night’s encounter.
The local lad joined Villa at the age of six before rising through the club’s Academy to become a first-team regular.
Matchday one marked a further milestone in Ramsey’s Villa journey as he netted his maiden Champions League goal in our 3-0 victory at BSC Young Boys.
And this week will be another proud moment for the 23-year-old.
“When I was coming through (the Academy), we were quite a big distance away from playing Champions League,” he said.
“Now I’m in the first team, and it’s the reality.
“The lads had a brilliant season last season, getting fourth, so I’m really looking forward to my family and friends being there, and enjoy it.”
He added: “I don’t think any of the players need any extra motivation.
“When you say Bayern Munich at Villa Park in the Champions League.
“No extra motivation needed.”
