Aston Villa welcome Crystal Palace to the Bescot Stadium this evening for their first game of their 2024/25 League Cup campaign.

Tonight’s fixture is the first of the side’s three group stage matches as Villa will also take on Charlton Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur for a place in the quarter-finals.

Villa will also be looking to go one step further in the competition than they did last year and earn a spot in the final.

The side reached the semi-final stage last term but were knocked out by eventual winners Arsenal.

Robert de Pauw’s side will also be looking for their first win of the new campaign after a narrow loss and a draw in their first two fixtures.

The side were most recently in action last Sunday when they drew 2-2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur. Adriana Leon and Rachel Daly were both on target for with with two terrific efforts for the Villans to secure the side a point in B6.

This evening’s visitors are also on the hunt for their first win of the season after suffering back-to-back defeats in the Women’s Super League. The Eagles fell to a 7-0 loss in their last fixture at Selhurst Park.

The Last Meeting

The two sides last met back in September 2019 in the Women’s Championship, a season that Aston Villa went on to win the league and earn promotion to the Women’s Super League.

Villa came out victourious in the last encounter as they beat Crystal Palace 6-0 away from home.

A hat-trick from Mel Johnson and further goals from Emma Follis, Amy West and Shania Hayles sealed the thumping win.

Anna Leat (head), Jill Baijings (back) and Georgia Mullett (hamstring) all still reamined sidelined as they continue their rehabilitations.

Gabi Nunes could be in contention to make her Villa debut.
