Núñez gets the nod ahead of Jota

Liverpool beat Bologna 2-0 in the champions league midweek and we're back in the first division with a trip to Selhurst Park. The 'reds' face the Águilas on Saturday, October 5 at 12:30 local time in the match corresponding to matchday seven.

Arne Slot's table leaders will be looking to pick up three points and here's a look at the team that could be tasked with doing so.

goalkeeper – Alisson Becker will start in goal. Liverpool have conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League so far and, although the Brazilian has not been called up too many times, he is still the first option between the posts.

Defenders – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson were taken off before the 90th minute against Bologna as they had a few minutes' rest before the weekend's action. They will play as full-backs just three days after defeating the Serie A team in the Champions League.

An unchanged defense since the European Cup victory will allow Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to keep their places in the middle of the defensive line.

Núñez to start

Midfielders – Alexis Mac Allister scored for Liverpool against Bologna and will keep his place in the starting eleven against Palace as well, as will his double pivot partner Ryan Gravenberch.

Dominik Szboszlai will also start at the attacking end of midfield. Mohamed Salahwho scored on Liverpool's last visit to Selhurst Park in 2023, will play on the right wing with Luis Diaz expected to be the left winger as he looks to continue his strong form.

Forward – There is every reason to believe that Darwin Nunez will get the nod to lead the line against Crystal Palace. The 6ft 2in Uruguay international was withdrawn for the final half hour against Bologna and with Diogo Jota failing to make an impact, it could be the former Benfica striker's turn to try and gain the trust of Arne Slot.

Cody Gakpo is likely to be among the replacements along with Liverpool's £41m signing from 2020, Jota.

This is what Liverpool would look like on paper:
