The talkSPORT presenter is angered by the German media's “ridiculous” treatment of Harry Kane after claiming the Bayern Munich striker is “invisible”.
Martin Keown has put aside his loyalty to Arsenal to back Tottenham legend Harry Kane following harsh criticism from the German media.
The England captain has 54 goals in 53 games Bayern Munich but he has been harassed for his recent actions, with image criticizing his goalless performances against Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa.
After the 1-0 defeat against Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday image wrote: “The England star was barely seen and missed a great header opportunity to equalize shortly before the end.
“When he returned home (to England), the captain of the English team remained invisible. Just as he did against Leverkusen. (He) only managed his only shot on goal seconds before the final whistle.”
Despite their strong attachment to their North London rivals ArsenalGunners legend Keown was quick to defend Kane when he spoke his treatment in the German press with Jim White and Troy Deeney.
said in the White and Jordan show: “I think the German media are having a good laugh criticizing him after what he has done for Bayern since he arrived there. He is not the reason they didn't win the Bundesliga last year.
“It has been magnificent. It could have gotten them back into the game against Villa right at the end, but Emi Martínez made a great save.
“It seems ridiculous to me. If he were German, they would praise him and talk about him for years, but in Germany, for some reason, they want to criticize him. It's out of order.
“54 goals in 53 games is not someone who is not doing it.”
It has been an unusual time in Germany for Kane: despite scoring 36 goals in his debut season, it was not enough for Munich, whose run of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles was invincible broken by Bayer Leverkusen.
That led to a difficult European Championship for the England captain, who, despite helping the Three Lions reach the final, struggled to connect with his teammates in the way fans were used to during his iconic career in Spurs.
When asked about his performances over the summer, Keown said: “I think it's a different matter. He wasn't at his best and perhaps, on reflection, Gareth Southgate could have taken him out sooner.
“Maybe not starting him in the last game when Ollie Watkins had already shown he was a worthy starter and for some reason Harry couldn't find form in that tournament.
“His performances with Bayern Munich have been very attractive.”
Simply put, Kane is a goal-scoring machine who has continued to fire under former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, scoring ten in eight appearances in all competitions this season, including four goals against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
In that match, the 31-year-old overtook Wayne Rooney as England's top scorer in Champions League history.
In September, Bayern got off to a good start with 20 goals scored in one week in three games. Eight of them came from Kane.
So people praised Bayern and the striker, but as we know, football narratives change quickly.
