Serge Gnabry returns to the German national team after almost a year out and is set to start against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, according to Kerry Hau.
The 29-year-old has returned to form under Vincent Kompany, scoring two and creating three across nine games for Bayern Munich this season.
And now, Gnabry is the highest goalscorer in the current Germany squad with 22 goals. The forward’s last appearance came in a 2-0 defeat against Austria in November 2023. Gnabry then missed out on the games against France and the Netherlands after failing to make the squad, while a muscular injury ruled the player out of Julian Nagelsmann’s Euro 2024 squad.
Gnabry wasn’t called upon by Nagelsmann for the opening fixtures of the UEFA Nations League A games. But now there’s a shot at redemption for the attacker.
Speaking at the Adidas site in Herzogenaurach, Gnabry ‘wasn’t aware’ of being the player with the most goals in the current squad, but added: “I’m playing well at the moment, and hopefully I can play here too.”
Missing out on the Euro 2024 squad through injury was ‘bitter’ for Gnabry, but wants to make amends and is a player that demands a lot from himself: “I see myself as a player who leads the way.”
Germany play Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday night before hosting the Netherlands on Monday.
