Harry Redknapp points out what Frank Lampard might need to do to boost his managerial career after Chelsea and Everton struggles

Frank Lampard may need to take a step down the English pyramid to revive his managerial career.

That's the view of his uncle and legendary Premier League boss Harry Redknapp, who insists Chelsea Icon still has a lot to offer on the touchline.

His last spell was as interim manager of Chelsea at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, however, he won just once in 11 games and his return to the dugout is yet to be sealed.

As a result, the former West Ham and Tottenham boss Redknapp has hinted that his nephew's next job might have to be in the Championship.

“He has a lot to offer,” he told Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist on talkSPORT Breakfast. “He knows the game.

“He is a fantastic professional, the best coach I have ever seen, honestly, I had never seen anyone with that attitude in my life, it was incredible.

“It's time for… I think he thought he had a great opportunity with the Burnley job that Scott got, Scott Parker, and I think, was it between the two of them that time?

“There has to be somewhere, I may have to go back to the Championship somewhere, but it has to be the right club where I have the opportunity to go and do something.

“Because that's important, you know yourself, you take the wrong club, the wrong job, that can kill you very quickly, right? He needs to be successful in his next job, for sure.”

Stelling suggested it would be good to see Lampard involved with England in some way, prompting Redknapp to say: “Absolutely, absolutely.”

However, when asked if he knew whether the FA spoke to Lampard for the manager's job before hiring Thomas Tuchel, who replaced him at Chelsea in 2021, he said: “No, I don't know… I doubt it.”

Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-off final in his only season at the club, but lost 2-1 to Aston Villa.

The 46-year-old's first spell at Chelsea saw him finish in the Premier League's top four despite a transfer ban and the departure of the legendary Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.

He had them at the top of the league standings in December 2020, but a run of two wins in eight games led to their exit.

Lampard joined Everton in early 2022 and was available to secure their Premier League status during a tough relegation battle.

However, Sean Dyche replaced him after just one year at Goodison Park, with the Chelsea and England legend awaiting his next opportunity.

Speaking exclusively with talkSPORT in JuneLampard revealed that although he turned down offers this year, he is ready to return.

“Some opportunities have come my way, they didn't seem right at the time. So I've made that decision at times,” he said.

“But now I feel ready, so we'll see what opportunities arise. I'm certainly ready to work. I love doing what I do, so we'll see.”
