RB Leipzig has announced that centre-back Castello Lukeba has extended his contract at the club until 2029 which includes a release clause.

Lukeba will receive a pay rise with his contract extension but the new contract also includes a release clause that is worth around €90m reports Sky Germany. It has previously said that the release clause was also in his previous contract.

On extending his contract at the club, Lukeba said:

“The move to Leipzig was exactly the right one for my development. I got playing time very quickly and with it responsibility and always felt the trust of everyone in the club, our fans and my teammates – RB Leipzig now feels like my second family. This environment makes it so easy for young players like me to quickly gain a foothold here and improve every day. The conditions for training at the highest level and regularly playing against the best teams in the world are simply great! I’m looking forward to many more games for RB Leipzig and will do everything I can to ensure that we get the most out of it.”

The 21-year-old moved to Leipzig last summer from Lyon for €35m and immediately has become one of their key figures in defence. This season, Leipzig has the best defence in the league keeping six clean sheets and only conceding two goals against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, Lukeba has played in all but one of the games.

If a club pays the release clause of Lukeba he will be the clubs joint most expensive departure matching defender Josko Gvardiol who left in the same summer that Lukeba joined to Manchester City for €90m.
