Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich monitoring 1.FC Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig

Sport Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring the situation alongside Bayern Munich surrounding 1.FC Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

It has previously been reported that Urbig is not interested in renewing his contract in the Domstadt which expires in 2026. This means that Köln do not want to risk losing the 21-year-old on a free, so are open to selling him in the summer, especially if they fail to earn promotion back to the Bundesliga.

Bayern has said to have already held talks with Urbig’s camp about potentially being Manuel Neuer’s successor at the club, but they already have Alexander Nübel who is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart.

Leverkusen are also preparing for a successor to Lukas Hradecky. The Finland international’s contract at the side expires in 2026 and at times has shown that he is not near a top-class goalkeeper that Leverkusen needs. Urbig has the potential to replace Hradecky at the end of his contract when he would be 36.

Urbig is one of Germany’s next great goalkeeping prospects and has been tipped alongside SC Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu as a future number-one for the national team.
