Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot could have already won the 'loss of the season' and it's not even November.

The Portuguese full-back had a glorious opportunity to break the tie in the first half of the match. 2-1 defeat against West Ham.

Dalot was played behind by his teammate Bruno Fernandez with a glorious long ball up and beat Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to the ball.

He left Dalot with the seemingly simple task of putting the ball into the empty goal.

However, the 25-year-old hit the ball over the bar, much to the horror of the Red Devils fans.

Reacting on social media, one fan wrote: “Dalot. I have no words. Not a single one.”

Another said: “How on earth did Dalot get lost from there?”

“Dalot is the lady of the season,” joked a third.

The miss even surprised West Ham fans, who celebrated as if their own team had just scored.

Manchester United, who have missed more big chances than any Premier League team this season, rued their profligacy in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho hit the crossbar in the opening minutes, before unleashing a glorious shot that went wide of Fabianski's right post later on.

Fernandes, who had been denied three assists in the first 45 minutes, also missed a free header.

Erik ten Hag's side took eight shots in the first half compared to one for the home team, with two on target compared to none for the Hammers.

The drama would continue in the second half with a late Jarrod Bowen penalty, awarded after a Controversial VAR reviewHe further increased the pressure on coach Erik ten Hag.
