Emi Martínez was crowned as the best goalkeeper in the world for the second consecutive year on Monday night.
Following up his triumph in 2023, the 32-year-old was named as the winner of the prestigious Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
Aston Villa’s amazing Argentine was there to collect the accolade, which honours the best goalkeepers in world football.
Martínez also placed 18th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
Martínez beat Diogo Costa (Porto), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Giorgi Mamardashvili (Valencia), Unai Simon (Athletic Bilbao), Yann Sommer (Inter Milan) and Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns) to win the award.
Martínez has continued to excel between the posts for club and country since winning the award last year, winning the Golden Glove as Argentina won the Copa América in July.
His performances were also a major factor as Villa qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, finishing fourth in the Premier League in 2023/24.
The World Cup winner adds another trophy to his glittering CV, which includes The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper Award and World Cup Golden Glove Award in 2022.
Congratulations, Emi!
