Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer experiencing the worst season of his career

Sport Bild reports that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is currently experiencing the worst season of his career when it comes to shot-stopping.

The 38-year-old is currently averaging a 53.3% save percentage this season. Compared to other Bundesliga keepers, that would put him 16th out of the other 18 Bundesliga keepers.

A look at the number of saves Neuer has made, via FBrefshows he has only made seven saves in the Bundesliga this season, which seems to him sit in the bottom five of goalkeepers that have played in the league, only ahead of Maarten Vandevoort, Sven Ulreich, Florian Müller and Matej Kovar all of whom are backup keepers for their clubs.

Neuer’s save percentage is the lowest it has been in his career since 2018/19 when he averaged 62.3%. The highest point of the 38-year-old’s career was 11 years ago when he averaged 80.3% in 2013/14.

This all comes on the back of questions surrounding Neuer’s future as Bayern’s number one. Die Rekordmeister have been linked with 1.FC Köln Jonas Urbig in recent weeks, whilst they also currently have Alexander Nübel on loan at Stuttgart and on top of this there is still talk that Neuer will be offered a new contract for next season as well.

However, Neuer’s recent performances have not given hope that he is at the high level that he was once at.
