Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that he will be turning off commentary in the future after watching Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa in midweek.
The Blues put together arguably their best performance of the season so far in the demolition job of Unai Emery’s high-flying Aston Villa, who are having a stunning campaign both domestically and in Europe.
The two Premier League rivals met at Villa Park on Wednesday in a replay of their drawn FA Cup fourth round first meeting at Stamford Bridge.
Conor Gallagher had opened the scoring for the hosts, with Nicolas Jackson also netting before the break, with Enzo Fernandez‘s stunning free-kick making it 3-0 before a consolation in added time from Moussa Diaby for the hosts.
Following the game, Agbonlahor blasted the commentary from ITV‘s Lee Dixon, claiming that he will now be watching football on mute.

‘No longer on some of these games am I having the commentary on,’ the Aston Villa legend told talkSPORT. ‘Lee Dixon last night, honestly; boring, so one-sided towards Chelsea.
‘Enzo Fernandez got the free-kick – and it was not a foul, Youri Tielemans didn’t touch him – and Lee Dixon says “there doesn’t look much in that free kick, but who cares!”
‘What you talking about “who cares”? Villa care! Villa care because they wouldn’t have got the third goal. Honestly, dreadful mate.’
When asked by host Alan Brazil whether he ever had a run-in with Dixon, Agbonlahor continued to take aim at the Arsenal legend, claiming: ‘No, I’m not that old!’
He added: ‘Sam Matterface is one of the best of course, but he deserves to work with someone better than Lee Dixon, because that was so one-sided.
‘That’s the Villa in me, and all Villa fans feel the same way. “Who cares?”, we care! Tielemans didn’t touch Fernandez – we care, Lee! Rant over.’
Villa are in the middle of something of a slump based on their progression throughout the campaign, which could have seen them on top of the table at Christmas if not for a draw with Sheffield United.
Emery’s side have just two wins in all competitions in 2024, beating Middlesbrough in the FA Cup and the Blades 5-0 in the Premier League last weekend.

Unai emery’s side are exceeding expectations this season with a Champions League push and are through to the next round of the Europa Conference League
While it is a truly impressive season so far for Villa – who are also through to the next round of the Europa Conference League – Agbonlahor pointed out that the most important thing for fans would be to win a trophy at the end of the season.
‘Some fans will say top four, but some will say winning a trophy, seeing what West Ham fans, the parade they had, winning that European trophy.
‘That’s what I would rather – Aston Villa go and win the Europa Conference League. Yes it’s been up and down, like a rollercoaster, but we’re in fourth place, two points above Spurs’
Villa will have a chance to get back to winning ways once again with the visit of Manchester United coming up on Sunday, before clashes with Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Luton, Tottenham and West Ham.
