Tottenham fans would have been forgiven if they had looked twice when they saw two people in sports suits walking towards the stadium on Wednesday.
But it turned out that they weren't two super fans who wanted to look like the players, actually was two players: James Maddison and Mikey Moore.
Maddison shared the strange story on her Instagram stories on Friday.
“The traffic was so bad that @mikeymoore_10 and I had to walk the last mile because we got stuck in stopped traffic and weren't moving,” Maddison wrote.
Despite the possibility of being harassed by fans around the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Maddison enjoyed the experience of working undercover with Moore.
“I really loved walking through the pubs and down the streets to the field with the fans,” Maddison said.
“It reminded me of going to see Coventry with my dad when I was a kid.
“Nobody had a clue @mikeymoore_10.”
Fortunately for Maddison, the hampered preparation had no effect on him as he was an unused substitute in Tottenham's 2-1 win over Manchester City.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou called on 17-year-old Moore in the 68th minute, when he came on for Brennan Johnson.
An early goal from Timo Werner set the tone for Tottenham as he completed a quick counterattack to finish off a low cross from Dejan Kulusevski.
Pape Matar Sarr doubled the home team's lead with a sweet first shot from the edge of the area midway through the first half.
But City halved the deficit just before half-time when Matheus Nunes met a cross.
Despite having the majority of possession in the second half, City struggled to create clear-cut chances as Tottenham held on for victory.
The victory was Postecoglou's first over City since taking charge in north London in July 2023.
His first meeting with Pep Guardiola's side ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw last December when Dejan Kulusevski's 90th-minute header saved Tottenham.
However, City beat Tottenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup and in the penultimate match of the Premier League.
But Postecoglou is now a step closer to confirming his claim that he “always” wins trophies in his second club seasons thanks to Wednesday's victory.
Manchester United awaits Tottenham in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup in what will be the eighth game in charge of the new Red Devils coach, Ruben Amorim.
