- Tottenham Hotspur Vs. Aston Villa – Sun, Nov 3rd 2024, 14:00
Jacob Ramsey says the mood at Aston Villa remains positive despite the frustrations of the past week, although no-one is getting carried away by the club’s solid start to the season.
Villa face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday fourth in the Premier League table and top of the UEFA Champions League standings having registered three wins from their opening three matches in Europe.
But the Villans were pegged back deep into injury time last weekend as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to AFC Bournemouth, before seeing their 11-match unbeaten run come to an end with Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in midweek.
“Things are good, the team’s positive although we lost on Wednesday night,” said midfielder Ramsey.
“The draw against Bournemouth felt like a defeat, but things are positive.
“We’ve had a good month, recently beat Bayern Munich, beat Bologna in the Champions League and had a good win against Fulham.
“So, it’s positive.”
Ramsey is expecting “a really tough game” as Villa make the trip to Spurs this weekend.
The Villans head to north London having won their last two meetings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and three of their previous four.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s side have won five and drawn one of their matches on the road in all competitions so far this term.
But Ramsey insists it is still early in the season and everyone remains level-headed.
“I don’t think any players, staff or the manager are getting overwhelmed by looking at the Champions League and Premier League positions,” he added.
“We’re just taking it game by game, whether that’s in the Premier League, the Carabao Cup or the Champions League.
“No-one’s getting too excited by looking at the table, we’ve played nine games in the Premier League and three games in the Champions League.
“There’s still a long, long way to go.”
