Unai Emery was disappointed after Aston Villa failed to build on a strong first half against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

The visiting Villans led 1-0 at half-time through a Morgan Rogers goal, nullifying the Spurs attack in the opening 45 minutes.

But the hosts proved too strong after the interval to take all three points in north London.

“We are frustrated and disappointed, but we played a very fantastic first half,” Emery said.

“We were taking advantage and in the second half we were in the same idea. They scored one goal and they were pushing more.

“Even like that, we had our chances to score the second goal, but the match was completely different when they scored the second goal.

“A team like Tottenham when they have the advantage in the result their transitions are very strong and we needed to do one step forward to score a goal.

“We did it but in the transition they scored the first goal. The result is bigger than we deserved. We competed well and were close to getting something here.

“Now is the time to get balance and to keep going. There are 38 days and we are going to play 38 matches and to be consistent in 38 matches is the most important.

“Today we lost one opportunity here against Tottenham. We are in our way and we will try to get up quick, prepare the match against Brugge on Wednesday and keep going.

“We are disappointed and frustrated because our supporters were here with us. They were trying to push us and they did it. We competed like we were preparing the match but the result was completely different.”

The result inflicted only the second Premier League defeat of the season in ten games on Emery’s team, and the Villa manager is eyeing a strong response.

“We are finishing today’s match on day ten in fifth,” he reflected.

“We are going to try to be consistent because last year we had a lot of experiences losing some points but we were always reacting and responding very well and today is the same.”
