Tottenham Hotspur achieved their second consecutive victory in all competitions after a resounding 4-1. first division conquer Villa Aston at home.
The London heavyweights got off to an unconvincing start yesterday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Villa took a 1-0 half-time lead after Morgan Rogers scored from close range.
The second half went much better with Brennan Johnson tying the score in the 49th minute. Dominic Solanke put Spurs ahead 3-1 with a quickfire double in the space of 4 minutes.
James Maddison added polish to the performance with a perfect free kick to beat Emiliano Martínez in injury time.
Solanke received the plaudits after his stellar second-half brace, but coach Ange Postecoglou also praised midfielder Pape Matar Sarr after playing a 'important'Midfield role.
Postecoglou said: “I value it a lot. His ability again to work for the team but also the quality he has to break down rivals with his run with the ball. “I knew today would be important because they have a very hard-working midfield with Onana, Tielemans, McGinn and Rogers.”
Important
Sarr has been in and out of Postecoglou's initial plans since the start of the campaign. Despite his inconsistent playing time, the 22-year-old has stood out for his performances on most occasions.
The midfielder was brilliant in the recent victory over city of manchester in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, achieving a sensational victory from long distance. He didn't contribute any goals or assists against Villa, but he left his mark.
according to Sofascore.comThe former Metz player completed 92% of his passes against the Villans. He had the most touches of anyone on the field with 79 and was brilliant with his breaking distribution.
Postecoglou said that it was going to be important against Villa and restored the coach's confidence. Sarr will now look to consolidate his place in midfield continuing his good run of recent weeks.
Spurs have a trip to Galatasaray in Türkiye in the european league on Thursday night. The London heavyweights are off to a perfect start with 3 wins from 3 but could face a tough test amid injury concerns.
