Yoane Wissa scored seven goals this season and his brace helped Brentford recover from Monday's collapse at Fulham and win Bournemouth.
The Bees needed a response after Fulham's Harry Wilson scored twice in second-half injury time to surprise them in the first division last time. And after Evanilson capitalized on a Sepp van den Berg error to give the Cherries an early lead, a Wissa header leveled the scores in west London.
A shot by Justin Kluivert from inside the six-yard box put Bournemouth ahead again after the break, but a Brentford A double from Mikkel Damsgaard and a second from Wissa sealed the victory.
Speaking about Wissa, Brentford manager Thomas Frank said: “I'm very happy, I think he's better as a nine and I think he's developed fantastically. “His overall game with his connection, his retention, his work ethic and two big goals was very good.”
Andoni Iraola's men dominated possession with an extra man in the central areas before the first goal in the 17th minute. Brentford seemed shackled by Monday's defeat, and Van den Berg gifted Evanilson an early goal.
“I think it's difficult because I'm happy with the performance,” Iraola said. “In the first half we were the better team but we couldn't make a difference.”
When Frank's team lost the ball midfield, Van den Berg attempted to relieve the pressure by playing back to goalkeeper Mark Flekken, but his weak pass was pounced on by the diligent Brazilian who rounded Flekken to score.
Brentford struggled to find combinations going forward and resorted to their long kick tactics in an attempt to find an equaliser.
A ball launched by Mathias Jensen was headed into the area and Wissa was free to head it past Kepa Arrizabalaga, rescuing Van den Berg for his previous mistake.
Bournemouth took the lead again four minutes after the break, executing a well-worked move from a corner to regain the lead. The ball was played short and an intricate reverse pass from Lewis Cook through the defense towards Kluivert saw the Dutch winger finish inside the right post for 2-1. Brentford soon equalized when Bryan Mbeumo found Damsgaard on the right and his shot in the 50th minute caught Kepa out of position.
Brentford had been far from their best but have quality finishers, including the clinical Wissa, who scored his second to put his team into the ascendancy for the first time. Wissa kept his run and Vitaly Janelt slipped him in before a clever chip fired past Kepa to make it 3-2 eight minutes after the equaliser.
Frank said: “It's a great reaction in many ways. “It wasn’t perfect, but the recovery mentality was incredibly good.”
Brentford avoided another late scare in stoppage time when Bournemouth hit the crossbar, allowing the hosts to take the three points they had squandered on Monday.
