ESPN journalist Mark Ogden has urged Arsenal sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres to finally win the first division qualification.
After narrowly missing out on winning the league title last season, it was widely reported that the Gunners were keen to sign a new striker to strengthen the centre-forward position last summer.
They were linked with a number of options, including Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko. However, the north London club ultimately decided not to sign a new number nine before the deadline and opted to let Eddie Nketiah leave the club to join Crystal Palace.
Kai Havertz He has been Arsenal's starting striker at the moment and Gabriel Jesus has been his support. However, the Brazilian has not been at his best of late, while Havertz struggled to score goals in the final games before the November international break, although he enjoyed a promising start to the season.
Now, when choosing the ideal signing for each of the top six Premier League clubs in ESPN FC showOgden has said acquiring a striker should be an “absolute priority” for Arsenal and Gyokeres would be the right acquisition.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
The journalist further states that it is big business for Havertz to consistently score goals, so he needs the right support. Ogden said:
“I think Arsenal's need for a centre-forward is very obvious. I mean, you know Kai Havertz has done a decent job scoring goals, but they can't trust him anymore. It's too big a burden for him.
“For me, (the number 9) is Arsenal's absolute priority because they have goalscorers in the team but they don't have an absolute goalscorer; I think that's why they are nine points from the top. “
Gyokeres has an £84million release clause in his current contract, but the player reportedly has an agreement with Sporting to leave for a fee of at least 50 million pounds.
The 26-year-old has been in top form of late and has already attracted a lot of attention from several big clubs in Europe as a result.
He is a top-class player and could be a big coup for Arsenal if they acquire him. However, it will be interesting to see if the north London club finally make a concrete decision to sign him next year.
