Former and current manager of Spain West Ham United Coach Julen Lopetegui did not appreciate the comments made by Barcelona icon Gerard Pique. The former Spain centre-back claimed that Lopetegui had asked him to publicly apologize to the country.
Pique revealed the weekend that Lopetegui and then the captain of Spain Sergio Ramos had asked to read a statement that apologizes to the country after the 1-O referendum in Catalonia in 2017, which was illegal, but it ended with the Spanish police beating the peaceful protests.
Íñigo Martínez: “We have a very tough opponent in front of us, Brest is doing very well in the Champions League, despite being in the middle of the table in the league. Tomorrow, if we relax, we can pay a high price.”

According to Chain SERLopetegui is furious about the comments, and assures that the facts have been twisted and exaggerated. The ex-Seville did not appear on the radio station, but instead told the outlet privately that there were witnesses to this event, and that he only gave ideas on how to manage the situation.
Lopetegui's statements would certainly carry more weight if he addressed the matter publicly himself, but there are two sides to every story. Given the details provided by Pique, it seems unlikely that the situation was misinterpreted. However, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth for those who are in the right.
