Ferguson has only made one start as a starter Brighton in the Premier League under new boss Fabian Hurzeler and has just one goal to his name.

Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro have been the Seagulls' preferred forward options along with summer signing Georginio Rutter.

Ferguson will now be able to leave the club on loan when the transfer market reopens in January.

It will give the 20-year-old the opportunity to earn more minutes during the final months of the current campaign.

Ferguson signed for the Premier League side in 2021 from Irish side Bohemians, where he progressed through the youth tanks.

He made his senior debut for Brighton in August 2021 at the age of 16 coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Cardiff City.

The striker's most successful season with the Seagulls to date was 2022/23, when he scored ten goals in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Ferguson scored six more goals last season but missed the final two months with an ankle injury.

Chelsea, Brighton's Premier League rival, showed interest in signing the young Irishman at the beginning of the year.

talkSPORT reported in January that he was on their list of summer forward goals after its good start to the 2023/24 season.

However, Brighton believed he was worth more than the £115m Chelsea spent on his former team-mate Moisés Caicedo.

It was also understood that Ferguson was in no rush to leave his current club, with Manchester United and Tottenham previously also interested.

However, Brighton could temporarily part ways with him in the coming weeks amid his lack of involvement this season.

A transfer battle between several clubs would not be a surprise given his quality and his total of 17 goals for the Seagulls.
