Simon Jordan has re-established his view that Chelsea can win the Premier League in the near future, even as early as this season by challenging table leaders Liverpool.
With Arne Slot's team eight points clear at the top and champions Manchester City struggling, Chelsea and Arsenal are level on points, having both won six games, drawn four and lost two.
Speaking on talkSPORT with Sam Matterface, former Crystal Palace president Jordan admitted he believes Chelsea have what it takes to challenge for top spot in May. an opinion he expressed last year.
“Chelsea are starting to pay off,” he told talkSPORT after the Blues struggled to find coherence with their rapidly assembled £1bn squad last season.
They finished sixth last season, winning 18 games, drawing nine and losing 11, but Jordan insists they are a different team this campaign.
He added: “I have the feeling that it will be Arsenal and Manchester City fighting for third and fourth place, and it will be Chelsea and Manchester City.” Liverpool fighting for the league.
“Chelsea is becoming an important team. Jackson now scores goals. The team looks better, it seems like they have solidified.
“I said Chelsea will be competitive in the Premier League and potentially win it in the next three years, now you have a team that is already in that space.”
The comments come after Jordan said in October last year that “Chelsea will get there”, adding that they will “win the Premier League in the next two or three years”.
Many fans were quick to laugh at his suggestion, even Chelsea fans themselves.
But under the new boss Enzo MarescaChelsea have had a significantly better start to the season this year.
Their only two league defeats were against Manchester City and Liverpool, and the Blues are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games, including a draw against Arsenal.
Chelsea last won the Premier League in the 2016-17 season under Antonio Conte.
