Speaking to Sky Germany after Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb, Julian Brandt revealed he is a doubt for the game against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
In Croatia, Brandt went off at halftime with a thigh problem, being replaced by Julian Ryerson. When asked at the end of the game if he would be able to feature on Saturday, Brandt said:
“It will be difficult”
Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl also was pessimistic about the midfielder’s chances:
“I am very skeptical. If someone leaves the field before the end of the half, that is not a good sign. It is something muscular.”
While in his post-match press conference, head coach Nuri Şahin also echoed the previous comments:
“I think it will be tight for the weekend. I hope he comes back quickly because he is almost irreplaceable for us.”
Who replaces Brandt is yet to be seen, Marcel Sabitzer could replace him but that is not his favoured position. While the likes of Maximilian Beier have played there previously for Dortmund, with little success. Şahin is also unlikely to start Giovanni Reyna as he is still rebuilding match fitness following a spell on the sidelines.
Dortmund were in control for most of the game in Zagreb on Wednesday night. They took the lead through Jamie Gittens just before halftime. Just after half-time, Ramy Bensebaini would double the team’s lead before a returning Serhou Guirassy would make it 3-0 right at the end of the game.
