Kylian Mbappe is currently experiencing one of the toughest moments of his career. He struggled to live up to expectations during the early stages of his time at Real Madrid, and after another clean sheet against Liverpool on Wednesday, which included a missed penalty, he now averages 0.5 goals per game.
Ace for MDReal Madrid icon Guti believes Mbappe's confidence struggles are playing a big part in his poor form.
“We all want to know what is happening to Mbappe. He seems not confident, shy … Moments before taking the penalty he seemed scared … In this sense he is certainly not happy with his performance and wants something more. There is a lack of confidence, and to this add that Real Madrid was waiting for him very anxiously and that he came out of his PSG bubble in which he had everything under control.

Due to his injury struggles, Real Madrid cannot afford to take Mbappe out of the firing line – Guti believes that would not be the course of action anyway.
“To take him out of the team would be the worst of remedies, but we have to protect him. And that is why he is in the best club. Real MadridFlorentino Perez and Ancelotti are going to protect him because we all believe in him. I believe in him. The easy thing is to criticize and say it's not good enough… but Mbappe is one of the best players in the world.”
