Football España on CNN: Real Madrid on course to challenge record points as La Liga title looms
Real Madrid's defeat of Girona, combined with a defeat for Atletico Madrid and a draw for Barcelona extending his lead over all three of his closest competitors this weekend. As they approach the last third of the season, it seems as if it is theirs to lose.
Currently, the Whites have an average of just over two and a half points per game, which should hold, taking them to 96.5 points for the season. Clearly or it will be one of 97 or 96 at this rate, but it would be enough to edit the record books if they continue, as Football España noted on CNN while reviewing the game.

The top two record point totals came from Tito Vilanova's Barcelona (11-12, 100 points) and Jose Mourinho's. Real Madrid (12-13, 100 points). Pep Guardiola's side also amassed 99 points in 2010, but the other two totals (96) rounding out the top five also come from Guardiola and Pellegrini. Carlo AncelottiThe team's side has a good chance at this rate of moving into that top five.
Most of the focus this year has been on the failures of their rivals, which are undoubtedly there, but the Blancos are accumulating points even at an almost impossible rate. The performance they did against Girona was evidence that they still have a lot more to give, as they moved five points.
