Real Madrid are closing in on offering the veteran a new contract

Real Madrid has a number of veterans who will be out of contract at the end of the season, and with that a number of decisions to make before the summer. However, it looks like the majority will be back next year, including Lucas Vazquez.

The 32-year-old winger, turned right-back, is now one of the club's longest-serving players. With the exception of one season with Espanyol, he has been in Valdebebas for the last 17 years, and according Reliefthey're getting closer to offering him another year.

While they follow other options of the law, including Yan Couto and Juanlu, they are in no rush to make a move for the position, and have other priorities this summer. Vazquez has not been without criticism during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he has generally held up well, and his excellent recent form has convinced Los Blancos that they should offer him a new deal.

The report also says that he is happy in Madrid, even if he doesn't quite get the playing time he wanted, but he still has a decision to make.

It seems more likely than not so Vazquez will choose to stay – being over 30, Real Madrid will only offer him one year anyway. If they don't feel that there is a standout right-back that they need to sign immediately, then it makes sense. At some point in the near future, they will no doubt also be looking for a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.
