Unai Emery says Aston Villa must rediscover their consistency following Sunday’s defeat at Chelsea.

Consistency has been one of the team’s major strengths during the manager’s tenure thus far, regularly showcasing their ability to bounce back from setbacks.

And Villa will be looking to put their loss at Stamford Bridge behind them in the week ahead when they host Brentford and Southampton.

“Thank you to our supporters because they are here with us trying to transmit their energy,” Emery said.

“We are disappointed with the result. Chelsea are getting better and getting stronger than last year.

“Today, in the match we tested it, but we have to keep going in the league. We have to keep the consistency we had before.

“We lost one opportunity in this match but we have another one on Wednesday.

“We are not in a spell of good results, but each match is an opportunity to come back with a good result and hopefully we can do it on Wednesday against Brentford with our supporters in Villa Park.”

Emi Martínez picked up a knock and was substituted at half-time in west London, with Robin Olsen emerging for the second half.

Speaking pitchside at Chelsea, Emery said it’s too early to know the extent of the injury but that he’s hopeful the goalkeeper won’t be sidelined for long.
