Piers Morgan was one of many to criticize “classless” West Ham fans for booing Declan Rice on his return to the club.
The midfielder was part of the Arsenal team that will play at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the crucial Premier League match.
However, Rice's welcome was not very warm, with loud boos coming from the home fans in east London, something that was warned by a follower on talkSPORT at the beginning of the season.
But that didn't stop him from providing two assists for his teammates as Arsenal led their London rivals 4-0 before the break, thanks to goals from William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and Leandro Trossard.
That was the first time in his career that Rice provided two assists in a Premier League match.
However, Rice went a step further by scoring a beautiful curling shot before refusing to celebrate in front of his old fans in a resounding 6-0 victory for Arsenal.
However, it was not the midfielder's first trip to the club, with Rice previously facing West Ham in the Carabao Cup in November.
On that occasion the midfielder was also booed by the fans, although with many followers also applauding his former captain.
However, as many West Ham fans chose to boo Rice once again, rival fans were less than impressed.
One wrote: “West Ham fans grow up booing Declan Rice when he receives the ball.”
A second fan said: “Declan Rice, the man who gave West Ham their first trophy in decades and then more than 100 million in transfer fees, is being booed by West Ham fans when he touches the ball. The fans are Fools”.
Meanwhile, a third fan wrote: “Why do West Ham fans boo Declan Rice's every touch? That would be like Arsenal fans booing Patrick Vieira. How strange.”
These comments were echoed by Piers Morganwho wrote: “What a lack of class for West Ham fans to boo Declan Rice incessantly after everything he did for their club.”
Mark Goldbridge also commented: “Imagine booing Rice. He made them 105 million and walked away winning them a trophy.”
Rice graduated from West Ham's academy before making 245 appearances for the club.
That included lifting the Europa Conference League trophy in his final game for the Hammers, before securing a £105m move to Arsenal last summer.
