Winners and losers: Eddie Howe 'under pressure' after brutal defeat with Brentford star tipped for elite move
Ruben Amorim's honeymoon at Manchester United may be over as he achieved a worrying feat.
Amorim oversaw United's 3-2 defeat by Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, which condemned him to consecutive defeats for the second time in his managerial career.
One of Amorim's key men was partly to blame for the result, as he was one of the individuals named in talkSPORT duo Jamie O'Hara and Jason Cundy, winners and losers of Saturday's action.
Winners
John Duran
Jhon Durán made a rare start for Aston Villa and made the most of it as his goal proved to be the winner against Southampton.
The Colombian has proven to be a threat to the Saints defense and will hope to retain his place in the starting line-up for Villa's Champions League match against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
“He deserves to be among the winners this week,” Cundy said.
“He takes his time, waits for the right moment and I know he wasn't happy a couple of weeks ago when he was taken out in the Champions League, but he got the most important goal.
“Villa weren't very good today, I thought Southampton might have achieved something, but Southampton are only going in one direction.”
Frank Lampard
Granted, Frank LampardThe achievement may not have been part of the Premier League action, but it cannot go unnoticed.
The 46-year-old took his first victory as coventry city manager and did it against Millwall in The Lair.
Coventry's victory also gave Millwall a 116 year old unwanted first since it was the first time that the latter lost four consecutive league games against the Darling Blues since they first met in 1908.
Taking into account Lampard's West Ham and Chelsea ties, makes the historic defeat even more brutal.
“Well done on your first win,” Cundy said.
“I think he is unbeaten so far as Coventry manager and they are at the dizzying heights of 14th place and just 10 of those play-off places.
“I needed that and to get Millwall away, it's a horrible place to go.”
Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa
One of the Premier League's deadliest double acts struck again.
Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa scored in Brentford's 4-2 win over Newcastle, with the former providing the assist for Kevin Shade's 90th-minute goal.
With their goals, Mbeumo and Wissa took their Premier League tally to nine each.
“Brentford at home, of course they win and of course they score a lot of goals,” Cundy said.
“I'm a bit torn between Mbeumo and Wissa, so I'll give it as a collective.
“I like them both. Mbeumo, I'm a big fan and if he continues doing what he does, the big dogs will be watching him.
“It's definitely on the radar.”
Losers
Rob Jones
Referee Rob Jones was the man who hit Rico Lewis their marching orders During Manchester City's draw against Crystal Palace.
Lewis received a second yellow card for a challenge on Palace. Trevoh Chalobahbut replays showed that it was the latter who appeared to make the first contact.
Since it was a second yellow and not a direct red, the VAR could not review the decision.
Upon seeing Lewis' red card during the match, Cundy said: “Rico Lewis' second yellow card, I won't take it, mate. Okay, I won't take it.”
“I'll tell you what, if football really wants to move forward on the path of improving VAR – this has bothered me for a while – a second yellow card for a red, why can't it be seen by VAR?
“It's an absolute mystery.”
So it should come as no surprise that Jones found his way among Cundy's losers.
“I'm going to put a ref in there, man,” Cundy said.
“I’m throwing Rob Jones in there.
“It's such a terrible decision.”
Eddie Howe
The criticism is getting louder for Howe as Newcastle's winless run extended to a fourth match with a 4-2 defeat to Brentford.
Newcastle's defeat also left them five points adrift of the top six, a gap not insurmountable but one that Toon fans won't be too pleased with.
“I don't care what you say, he's under pressure,” O'Hara said.
“They are 12th in the table.”
Cundy responded: “Under pressure he seems tough. Okay, he's under pressure. He's under the spotlight.
“People are watching and waiting to see what happens in the next few weeks.
“When you're in the spotlight, you're under pressure. Eddie is watching.”
André Onana
The Manchester United goalkeeper was included late, but given his calamitous mistake against Nottingham Forest, it wasn't a big surprise.
Forest ahead Morgan Gibbs-White He shot from the edge of the area and went straight towards Onana.
However, Onana misinterpreted the direction of Gibbs-White's shot as he fell to his right.
It proved to be a costly move as Forest claimed a 3-2 victory.
“He's coming in, what was he doing?” Cundy said.
“He goes in the opposite direction and lands with the ball in his own goal.
“At the end it's about three feet away.
O'Hara said: “It's one of the worst saves I've ever seen; it wasn't even a save because he missed the ball.”
On the flip side of the result at Old Trafford, Chris Wood's winning goal cemented him as Forest's all-time Premier League goalscorer, with a total of 25.
Aston Villa recorded their first clean sheet in eight games with a 1-0 win over Southampton.
Mbeumo and Wissa's brilliance inspired Brentford's 4-2 victory over Newcastle, with the four goals putting the Bees as top scorers in the league.
There was also due to be the small matter of the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, but the match was postponed due to Storm Darragh.
