Ange Postecoglou admits he can't ask for patience amid mounting pressure as single statistic highlights Tottenham's defensive woes
Ange Postecoglou admits he cannot ask for patience at Tottenham amid increasing scrutiny over his position as head coach.
The admission comes after his team went four games without a win, having suffered a home defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Spurs They won 2-0 against the Blues but suffered a 4-3 defeat at home, their seventh Premier League defeat in 15 games this season.
Postecoglou's His future as a coach has been left in doubt after being booed by fans at full-time of their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth three days earlier.
More questions will now arise over his position as Spurs extended their dismal run to one win in their last five league games.
Speaking about the club's current situation on talkSPORT after the match, Postecoglou said: “Yeah, look, it's not the best situation.
“I just said that seven defeats in 15 is not a big deal, I don't hide it, but there are still many games ahead.
“What we've shown this year is that you know when we're playing well and you know we've got some bodies that we can beat anyone with.
“So we just have to keep working until we get some bodies back and hopefully get some consistency.”
Postecoglou then added: “We have fans who were great today. You know, they supported the team, especially after the start. So that's all you can ask for and I can't ask anyone for patience, right?
“That's all I can do, like I said, keep working to build a successful football team.”
This is not the first time Spurs have blown a 2-0 lead before leaving a match empty-handed, having done the same in their 3-2 defeat at Brighton in October.
Their latest problems have been further highlighted by the fact that the defeat to Chelsea is the 11th time they have lost in the Premier League after leading by two or more goals.
This is at least four times more than any other club in the history of the competition, and the first at home since 2001, when they lost 5-3 to Manchester United.
There was positivity for Spurs before kick-off as they welcomed the return of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at centre-back.
It looked like a victorious night in north London just five minutes into the game when Dominic Solanke scored after a Marc Cucurella slip.
Dejan Kulusevski put Spurs in dreamland moments later when his low strike doubled the lead against a careless Chelsea side.
However, Jadon Sancho responded for the visitors with an excellent shot from outside the area past Fraser Forster.
Chelsea tied midway through the second half with Cole Palmer Penalty after a late challenge from Yves Bissouma to Moisés Caicedo.
Enzo Maresca's team completed the comeback when Enzo Fernández scored his third league goal in four games with a half volley.
A second Palmer penalty, this time an audacious panenka, sealed the three points despite Heung-min Son's late consolation.
Spurs saw Romero and Van de Ven go off injured, with the former doing so after just 15 minutes of play.
They sit 11th in the table after 15 games with just six wins and 20 points out of a possible 45 to their name.
Postecoglou's team remains far off the pace in the race for European qualification, a prospect that may have already been lost sight of.
