Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second first division defeat on the trot after a 4-3 defeat against Chelsea yesterday at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Ange Postecoglou's team got off to a sensational start with 2 goals in 11 minutes, but Jadon Sancho quickly reduced the deficit. Chelsea made it 2-2 from the penalty spot in the second half before Enzo Fernández put them ahead with a stellar goal.
The Spurs ended up conceding another ill-advised penalty which allowed the Blues to take a 4-2 lead. Heung-min Son scored a late goal in stoppage time, but it turned out to be a consolation.
Immediately after the match, coach Postecoglou was firm that there is no need to change the club's approach going forward, having built a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first half.
Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher was not impressed with those comments and said he can't imagine any former Reds manager who would have been satisfied after conceding 4 goals.
he said: “The coach keeps telling us that he won't change. “I can't imagine any manager when I played for Liverpool, after conceding four goals, saying we played well.”
Spurs in the crisis
The London heavyweights were exceptional against city of manchester at the Etihad Stadium last month. They completely dominated the current English champions, winning by 4 clear and unanswered goals.
This was followed by a series of 4 winless matches. Spurs shared the spoils against Roma and Fulham and have now suffered back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth and Chelsea in the league.
Spurs are in terrible shape and injury problems haven't helped them. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven returned yesterday after being out due to injury, but the former suffered another setback.
Van de Ven was also substituted due to a minor injury problem. With the schedule congested in December, Postecoglou needs his team to win again or he could be fired in early 2025.
The Spurs face the Rangers in the european league on Thursday before a league visit to Southampton on Sunday.
