Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that Patrik Schick could be an option in midweek.
Schick missed Leverkusen’s 2-1 win against St.Pauli at the weekend due to a calf injury he picked up against Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal last Tuesday. This resulted in Leverkusen playing with Tuesday’s match-winner Nathan Tella as a striker, while Martin Terrier also made his return from injury.
On the Czech international, Alonso said:
“Patrik is getting better, but we still have to wait for training tomorrow. We’ll take it day by day and then decide in what form he is an option.”
Alonso also confirmed that Amine Adli, Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface were the only long-term absentees.
This Tuesday, Leverkusen host Inter. This is the second team from Pot A that Leverkusen will face, after they played Liverpool earlier in the league phase and lost 4-0. A win for Leverkusen will give them a big boost as they look to secure a place in the top eight and avoid the playoffs, however, they come up against a Inter side that has yet to concede a goal in the Champions League this season.
