- Aston Villa Women Vs. Charlton Athletic Women – Wed, Dec 11th 2024, 19:15
Aston Villa wrap up their 2024/25 League Cup group stage campaign at the Bescot Stadium against Charlton Athletic this evening.
A spot in the competition’s knockout stages is still on the cards for Villa but they need nothing less than a win tonight to help ensure that.
The Villans currently sit 2nd in the league standings, three points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur, having picked up three points from their opening two games.
Fellow Women’s Super League side Crystal Palace also currently have three points on the board but sit third on goal difference and face Spurs at home this evening.
Charlton sit bottom of the group having suffered back-to-back defeats and are unable to progress into the knock out stages heading into this evening.
A win tonight would see Villa end the group stage of the competition on six points and they would also need to hope that Crystal Palace beat Tottenham Hotspur without bettering their goal difference to finish as group E winners.
Due to Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal’s progression in the UEFA Champions League only the winner of each group progresses through to the knockout stage as those three teams also enter the competition then.
The Last Meeting
The two sides last faced each other back in February 2020 as Aston Villa triumphed to a 3-0 victory on home soil.
Goals Shania Hayles, Emma Follis and Melissa Johnson sealed the victory and set Villa on course to being crowned 2019/20 Women’s Championship champions.
Team News
Lucy Parker (ankle) remains sidelined after suffering an ankle injury.
Jill Baijings (back) has returned to team training.
