Gary O'Neil sacked after Wolves suffered last-minute defeat in six-point relegation to Ipswich
Gary O'Neil has been sacked by Wolverhampton Wanderers after 16 months in charge, talkSPORT understands.
The former Bournemouth coach leaves Wolves in penultimate place in the Premier League table, four points from safety.
It is also understood that Wolves had approached Graham Potter and David Moyes to replace O'Neil, but both rejected the club's advances.
Wolves have also approached Carlos Corberán, who manages West Bromwich Albion.
A move for Corberan would be a bold move by Wolves' powerbrokers, given West Brom are the club's arch-rivals.
O'Neil's firing comes less than 24 hours after he suffered a demoralizing 2-1 defeat to the town of Ipswich in Molineux.
The Tractor Boys took the lead with an own goal from Matt Doherty, but equalized in the 72nd minute thanks to Matheus Cunha.
However, Ipswich took all three points thanks to Jack Taylor's goal in second-half stoppage time.
Chaos ensued after the final whistle when Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri had to be carried off the field by teammate Craig Dawson.
Ait-Nouri received a second yellow card after the match, meaning he is suspended for Wolves' trip to Leicester City next Sunday.
Goalscorer Cunha was also visibly furious and needed to be led through the tunnel to avoid further punishment.
Social media images of Cunha ripping glasses off the face of an Ipswich Town staff member quickly circulated on social media.

The defeat at Ipswich marked the fourth consecutive defeat for O'Neil's team and the second consecutive match marred by unpleasant post-match scenes.
After Wolves' 2-1 defeat to West Ham United last Monday, Mario Lemina was involved in a fight with Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen, in which both players fell to the ground.
O'Neil and his coaching staff were quickly on the field as they sought to calm the situation, but it only got worse.
Lemina was soon confronted by assistant coach Shaun Derry as the pair put their foreheads together before Wolves team-mate Toti Gomes pulled the midfielder away.
As a result of his participation in the post-match brawl, Lemina was stripped of the captaincy.
O'Neil's departure means Wolves are now searching for a fourth permanent manager since Nuno Espirito Santo left at the end of the 2020/21 season.
