- Aston Villa Women Vs. West Ham United Women – Sun, Dec 15th 2024, 14:00
Shaun Goater was pleased with Aston Villa’s calmness and composure showcased during Sunday afternoon’s 3-1 win over West Ham United.
Two first-half goals from Adriana Leon and a late wonder strike from Kenza Dali returned the side to winning ways in the Women’s Super League as they wrapped up 2024 in style.
Speaking after the win, interim Manager Goater said: “I was very pleased because I wanted to bring calmness and for the majority of the game we had a lot of calmness and composure.
“And there was some really good play from the players in terms of receiving the ball in pockets and driving – we had a good balance of our game.
“Really pleased how we went about it.”
Goater also beamed when discussing his side’s three goals.
“They were absolutely brilliant,” he shared.
“Dri is competitive and wins it, drives forward and she then strikes the ball – beautiful strike.
“Kenza receives the ball and drives forward and again another wonderful strike from Dri.
“The last one I think is really good because Miri does really well with a quick free-kick and they were disorganised and Kenza receives it and drives forward and eats up that space and then she has a strike and I don’t think any keeper is saving it.”
Jordan Nobbs made history in the fixture as she became the first-ever player to reach 200 WSL appearances and Goater is proud to have her a part of the side.
He said: “Jordan is absolutely brilliant.
“She brings a lot of calmness in her play, experience and her awareness to settle things down and her technical ability is really good.
“I am not surprised because she is absolutely quality, and it looks like she’s got another five years in her.”
Goater was also full of praise for the Villa supporters who he believed helped push the side on.
“They were absolutely brilliant.
“There was a time when were in a transition stage and the fans were absolutely brilliant and they were the ones that kept the players going and then they were able to regain a bit of composure.”
The 54-year-old also calls upon his side to continue their current good form at Villa Park and build on their back-to-back wins.
“We need to make it a fortress,” Goater stated.
“The quality of players that we have, the experience that we have and now we’ve got momentum can we now turn this into one more win when we come back?
“That is the next step.”
