Troy Deeney: Marcus Rashford is the biggest disappointment of 2024, and it's time for the Arsenal star to call it a day
Marcus Rashford is a baby who will perform the worst in 2024.
That is the opinion of the former Watford star Troy Deeneywho has also branded Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus “stinking” after a disappointing year so far.
With 2024 ending, several high-profile stars have been flattered to cheat, which could lead to their possible exit in the New Year.
Rashford is a player who faces an uncertain future after his omission of the Manchester United team for their derby victory over rival Manchester City.
The 27-year-old is a player who has come under fire from Deeney this month, who claimed the striker could be forced to retire when I'm 30 years old.
It was only two seasons ago that Rashford He scored 30 goals in all competitions, but in the following two terms he only managed 15.
He has found the back of the net just eight times in the Premier League this calendar year and the two-time FA Cup winner is in danger of failing to live up to his potential.
Speaking to talkSPORT.com, Deeney was asked what his biggest failure of the year has been.
To which he said: “Who has been a failure to me?
“It seems like I'm escalating and I don't mean to, but you'd probably have to say Marcus.
“Marcus has probably been the biggest disappointment this year.
“Failure is a difficult word, but I mean disappointment in terms of expectations and what we believe it can deliver.
“We'll probably have to say Marcus throughout January until now.”
Deeney then criticized Rashford's attitude and explained what he meant when he tagged the England international. like a 'baby' after his appearance from the bench in United'The 2-0 defeat to Arsenal earlier this month.
He commented: “What I'm talking about with 'baby' is attitude, he didn't start against Arsenal, so he thinks he should start.
“So to show people that you should start, he's just going to walk, how does that logic work?”
“That's what a baby does, that's what my kids do when they don't get what they want, they get cranky, they scream and cry.
“And he decided he was going to walk and try to make 70-yard diagonal passes out of bounds, but I guess that's the coach's fault.
“I just think he's very talented, he's had all the opportunities in the world and at some point it has to be his fault and not someone else's, that's what I think.”
Deeney then argued gunners Striker Jesus, who scored just one goal in the Premier League in 2024, arrived at Nottingham Forest in January.
Regarding the Brazilian, he remarked: “Gabi stinks, he's been stinking for a while. He's a good footballer who doesn't like to score goals.”
It was only last season that Jesus He himself admitted that “scoring goals is not my strong suit.”
Referring to Jesus' own view of himself, Deeney stated: “Personally, when you start saying that to people, it's time to call it a day.
“I'm not sure why he thought that was smart.”
Jesus' lack of goals has seen him start just twice in the top flight this campaign, with Kai Havertz preferred by Mikel Arteta to lead the Arsenal line.
His poor form has led former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino to label him “erratic”, and Jesus told him that only getting worse.
Tied up at the Emirates until 2027, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will look to transfer him in the near future.
