MORE ABOUT THE PREMIER LEAGUE
“Yes, I am,” he told talkSPORT. “I think we are trying to build, I say it many times in every transfer window that comes up, we are trying to build.
“And I think this window for us is probably more about getting the best out of the players we have than looking outwards.
“I don't see us doing big business, tickets, so it goes without saying that we want to keep our best players.”
talkSPORT understands Newcastle are under pressure to sell players in January amid profit and sustainability (PSR) fears.
However, weekend sports breakfasts Cascarino Howe senses he's nervous about the interest in Isak and says, “It's pretty clear, Eddie Howe is nervous.
“You know, 'We can't do a lot of business, it's important that we keep the best players we can', and Eddie totally understands that. He's got a challenge, he's going to have to fight against a number of clubs and if they make an offer over £100m, if that happens…
“One thing in the paper that Eddie also quotes, because it says a lot, he said that he is also very popular in the dressing room with the Newcastle boys.
“Not only did he talk about his goals, but he also said that he is very popular there, so it would be a big loss.”
Isak's ten Premier League goals put him in fourth place in the standings this season alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Chris Wood.
Only Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Cole Palmer have scored more than the trio.
Isak has also reached a total of 46 goals in 85 appearances for Newcastle, with the striker now in his third season at St. James' Park.
A move in January may prove difficult for interested clubs with the transfer window reaching the middle of the campaign.
However, Newcastle could find it even more difficult to retain Isak in the summer if he maintains his success in front of goal.
