Bayern Munich are in somewhat of a crisis after successive defeats, but Thomas Müller stands by Thomas Tuchel following their 1-0 defeat against Lazio in the Champions League Round of 16.
When asked in the mixed zone whether Tuchel was still the right coach for Bayern, Müller responded: “You’re welcome to have these coaching discussions, but us players are completely the wrong people to talk to. That’s also a bit disrespectful.
“Of course the sporting situation isn’t good at the moment. We players and coaches work every day to overcome it. You can do your analysis, but you don’t have to wait for us to tear ourselves apart. We stand together.”
Ciro Immobile proved to be the match winner for Lazio after his penalty secured a famous 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night.
But it was a night to forget for Bayern Munich. They came into this game following a 3-0 defeat against Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, which puts them five points behind Xabi Alonso’s side for this season’s Meisterschale.
And after making three changes following the Leverkusen defeat, Bayern failed to register a single shot on target against Lazio.
Tuchel will also be without Dayot Upamecano for the return leg at the Allianz Arena in three weeks time following his red card for a challenge on Gustav Isaksen, which resulted in Immobile’s penalty.
